Ultimate Guide to Wedding Ceremony Music

Updated: Oct 17, 2019

Church Ceremony Layout

Processional:

The Processional gives you the option to have a separate piece of music for the bridal party to the bridal Entrance. It is basically the music for the flower girls, ring bearers, bridesmaids etc. Processional music starts as soon as the bridal party enters the church and continues until the bride is ready to walk down the isle.

Entrance

The Brides Entrance music starts as soon as the bride enters the church and continues until the bride is at the top of the alter and mass is ready to begin.

In some cases, this song may continue into the Lighting of the Individual Candles below but it is good to have an option for it also just to be safe!

Some popular choices:

  • Pachelbel - Canon in D Major

  • Rascal Flatts - Bless The Broken Road

  • Chantal Kreviazuk - Feels Like Home

  • Train - Marry Me

Lighting of Individual Candles (Instrumental)

  • Glen Hansard - Wedding Ring

  • Ed Sheeran - Perfect

  • Gabriel's Oboe

  • Glen Hansard - Falling Slowly

Responsorial Psalm

This is the part of the ceremony where one piece of music will be played in between the First and Second Reading in the mass.

We strongly advise a hymn to be placed into this part of the ceremony.

  • On Eagles Wings

  • Ephesians Prayer

  • As The Deer

Gospel Acclamation (Priest or Musician)

  • Alleluia

Lighting of Marriage Candle (Instrumental)

  • The instrumental pieces used for the lighting of the individual candles can also be used here.

Offertory

  • The Servant Song

  • Liam Lawton - Mo Ghrá Thú/Hiding Place

Mystery of Faith (Usually done by the Priest)

Sign of Peace

  • Make Me A Channel Of Your Peace

  • Ephesians Prayer

  • Schubert - Ave Maria

  • How Great Thou Art

  • Here I Am Lord

Communion

Depending on how many guests are present, you could require two songs for communion. Always have two chosen, your favourite being number one, to be safe and the musicians will judge whether or not the second song is needed at the time.

We strongly advise Two Hymns to be placed into this part of the ceremony.

  • Liam Lawton - Cloud's Veil

  • John Newton - Amazing Grace

  • Celine Dion & Andrea Bocelli - The Prayer

  • Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah

Signing of the Register

Generally you should pick two songs for this part of the ceremony. There is more freedom with the song choices here as the mass is over. Sometimes your photographer will take a couple of photos at this stage which might hold things up. We would advise choosing three song here just incsase

  • Elvis - I Can't Help Falling In Love With You

  • Van Morrison - Have I Told You Lately That I Love You

  • Ellie Goulding - How Long Will I Love You

  • Extreme - More than words

  • Randy Newman - You've got a friend in me

  • Stricking Matches - When the right one comes along

Recessional

This is when everyone will stand and the bridal party will exit. Try and pick an upbeat song!

  • Picture This - Take My Hand

  • Fleetwood Mac - Everywhere

  • The Beatles - All You Need Is Love

  • The Lumineers - Ho Hey
